The battleship "Schlesien" already took part in the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916. From 1918 to 1939, the ship served as a cadet training ship. At the outbreak of war against Poland, the ship took part against the Hela peninsula on the fight. After participating in the company "Weser Exercise" was the ship from 1940 to 1944 as an icebreaker, barge and ship for securing minelayer. In April 1945, the "Silesia" Gotenhafen left with about 1,000 wounded on board to relocate to Swinoujscie.
