The recipient was the German-Jewish-English artist Dodo, painter and illustrator of New Objectivity and Art Deco, who emigrated to London from Nazi Germany. In the 20s she worked for "Vogue" or designed stage costumes for Marlene Dietrich. On her trips abroad she always used other first names-pseudonyms for her stage name Dodo. Dodo is one of those self-confident women in art whose work, after many years, has only been rediscovered in the 21st century. She created her masterpieces during the Roaring Twenties in the Weimar Republic.
